Prom Beauty Essentials Pt. 2: Prom Day!

So…the big day is finally here. There are so many different ways to do your hair and makeup that it can be hard to choose what to do…but I’m here to offer some suggestions for your guys. I’ve tried to include options for every budget, and I’ve done all the research, so hope this helps. Enjoy!

1) Getting flawless, yet natural, looking skin

Something we all want…skin that looks effortlessly beautiful and flawless. Unfortunately, that actually takes a ton of effort. Definitely doable, though. A good base, a nice foundation, good concealer and maybe even some powder overtop…put it all together, and you’ll get that flawless look. A nice highlighter is optional, but usually finishes off any look well…when used in moderation, that is.

I recommend:

TheFaceShop Lovely ME:EX Angel Skin Makeup Base: Different colours for different problems. Whichever you choose, though, this provides a great base for makeup. I have the green one, and it definitely helps counteract the red of my acne.

Smashbox Photo Finish Luminizing Foundation Primer – Conceals pores, a great overall base for makeup and great for oily skin!

Benefit POREfessional – Velvety smooth finish, fills in fine lines and pores and basically smooths and evens out skin, providing the perfect base for makeup!

Lancôme Teint Miracle Foundation – This high-coverage foundation goes on smoothly, blends like a dream and doesn’t cake, giving you a pretty, natural finish. Stays put for the entire day, even on oily skin!

L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation – Great for oily skin, this foundation has good coverage yet looks natural. Nice, velvety finish, too.

Skin79 Super Plus Beblesh Balm Triple Functions (Hot Pink) – Sheer to medium coverage (Depending on how much you apply), but looks nice and natural. Plus, it gives your skin a nice, dewy glow.

TheFaceShop Aura Color Control CC Cream – Medium coverage, blends flawlessly and stays on all day. Not too dewy, but just enough that your skin looks nice and healthy.

TonyMoly Luminous Live Aura CC Cream – Medium coverage, but looks totally natural. Lasts pretty much all day, and helps skin look more radiant and, well…luminous!

Yves Rocher Sebo Specific Stop-Smart Concealer – Medium coverage, but great for covering acne. Creamy and blends well, too. Might be a little too dry for under the eyes, though.

TheFaceShop Face It Radiance Concealer Dual Veil – With both stick and liquid concealer, this is an all-around great concealer. Stick concealer is high coverage while the liquid is great for dark circles and acne scars.

Lancôme Waterproof Protective Underye Concealer – High coverage, doesn’t budge and blends flawlessly. Hides dark circles like nobody’s business, and is a great base for eyeshadow, too!

TheFaceShop Face It Oil Cut Powder Pact – Sheer coverage, but helps finish off the look. Controls oil and reduces the look of shine, too.

TheFaceShop Face It Collagen EX Two-Way Cake – Weird name, but the coverage is decent (For a powder) and it has good staying power. Will give a bit of extra coverage and make your skin look that much more flawless.

Beauty Credit Powder Pact Moist – Great powder for those with dry skin. Light coverage and great for setting makeup, and for touch-ups, too.

Lancôme Éclat Miracle – Lightweight, and not shimmery…just beautifully dewy. Pricey, but oh-so-worth it. A great, weightless highlighter that finishes off any look perfectly. Blended with foundation, this is a great product.

TheFaceShop I Make You Brighter Highlighter – A highlighter in powder form. Easy to apply and gives you a nice, healthy glow. Brightens up your entire complexion, if used correctly.

Etude House Nymph Aura Volumer – Gives your skin that perfect dewy look. Easy to apply and finishes off the flawless skin look, making your face look radiant and moist.

Whew…now that that’s done, let’s move on to other makeup for that pretty, now practically flawless face of yours!

2) Eyeshadow

Now…let’s add some pop to those pretty peepers, shall we? Whether you’re going for smoky or bright and attention grabbing, or maybe just plain subtle and feminine, allow me to make a few product suggestions. As always, though, a good primer is a staple regardless of what look you’re going for.

I recommend:

ELF Studio Eye Primer Liner Sealer – Cheap. But also a tiny little product that does an unbelievable amount. It sets eyeshadow and prevents fading and creasing, yes, BUT it also turns any eyeshadow into eyeliner…waterproof eyeliner. Enough said.

Wet ‘N’ Wild Fergie Take On The Day Eyeshadow Primer – Another inexpensive little beauty. But one that works amazingly well. Eyeshadow literally doesn’t budge until you take it off, makes every shadow more pigmented and helps keep your eyeshadow looking fresh even at the end of the day.

Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer – Ever heard of the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion? Well, I present to you a dupe at about half the price. Eyeshadow stays put all day, prevents creasing and makes your eyeshadow colours a lot more vibrant, too!

Lancôme Color Design Sensation Effects Eye Shadow Smooth Hold – Pigmented, applies and blends like a dream, and stays crease free all day with minimal fading…even without a primer. If you have the money to splurge, I suggest you give one of these a try.

Yves Rocher Couleurs Nature Single Eyeshadow – Buttery smooth and highly pigmented, not to mention they last pretty much all day. If you happen to catch these when they’re on sale (Which they often are), they’re a great deal.

TheFaceShop Lovely ME:EX You & Eyes – Strange name, but cheap little gems. Pigmented and super smooth, these eyeshadows are great little finds. The cute little images on the cases are a nice touch, as well.

3) Finishing Up Those Pretty Eyes

Well, now that we have the shadow part down, let’s finish things up, shall we? Some liner to define the eyes and mascara to get long, pretty lashes will have all eyes on yours.

I recommend:

Lancôme Le Crayon Kohl – Easy to blend to get a dramatic effect, or perfect when you just want a soft line. Thick or thin, soft or dark…this versatile little pencil can do it all. Stays all day with minimal smudging too, so no panda eyes!

Clip Gelpresso – Gel eyeliners in easy to use pencil form. Super pigmented, and has a smooth finish. With a sharpener on the other end and a formula that stays put all day, what more could you ask for?

TonyMoly Backstage Gel Eyeliner – With a built-in brush, this eyeliner is compact and easy to carry around. The formula is incredibly pigmented, glides on like a dream and doesn’t budge until you want it to. It’s not hard to understand why this eyeliner has so many fans.

Maybelline New York Eye Studio Master Duo Glossy Liquid Liner – Cheap, practically waterproof, super pigmented and glides on like a dream, this is a great eyeliner. The wand is easy to use, and, whether you want your lines thick or thin, this can do it all.

Lancôme Cils Booster XL Super Enhancing Mascara Base –  No matter what mascara you use, this base will boost the effect. In short, you gel fuller, thicker looking lashes. It helps hold curls better, as well, so bonus!

Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara – Gives volume, holds curls like nobody’s business, and makes for doll-like lashes with minimal clumping. As a bonus, it’s not prone to smudging and holds all day.

Etude House Lash Perm 3 Step Volumecara – 3 choices, ranging from subtle to dramatic, helps create a world of looks. It holds curls, lengthens lashes, doesn’t smudge and makes your lashes look fuller. A great, versatile product.

Innisfree Skinny Microcara – This is perfect for those wanting a more natural look, or want something for their bottom lashes. It lengthens lashes and will make your lashes pretty without overdoing it. There’s a waterproof option, too.

Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Big Eyes – Not only does this really make your lashes really full and long, it has a special brush just for your bottom lashes, too. It defines your lashes, and is great for anyone looking for a more dramatic look.

4) Achieving That Perfect Flush

Blush is essential. It gives your cheeks a pretty, healthy flush of colour. Beware of applying too much, though, because that will definitely not go over so well.

I recommend:

Lancôme Blush Subtil – Oil-free and silky smooth, this applies like a dream. It gives your cheeks the perfect wash of colour. Just a little bit on the apples of your cheeks and you’ll have a beautiful, natural looking flush.

Skinfood Rose Essence Blusher – Silky finish and looks natural. In addition to that, you won’t look too much like a clown no matter how much you apply, so this is great for beginners. Plus…have you seen the tin for this?

Missha M Shimmering Ball Blusher – Cute packaging and has just enough shimmer to make your cheeks glow, but not so much that you’ll look like a disco ball. A great dupe for the much more expensive Guerlain Meteorites. Plus, the concept of little balls of colour that blend together to create the perfect shade is cute, isn’t it?

Missha The Style Sheer Fluid Blusher – Unlike powder blushes, these won’t make your cheeks look dry. Looks a little dewy, but not too much, and blends like a dream. It’s sheer, so it looks natural, and won’t look cakey no matter how much you apply.

Rimmel Stay Blushed Liquid Cheek Stain – A little goes a long way and, since it’s a stain, it adheres to cheeks and will last through the day and into the night. Great little product. Just put a bit on, and you have nice, rosy cheeks!

Perfekt Cheek Perfection Gel – A little different from your average blush, this blush looks natural and blends like a dream. It makes your cheeks glow and lasts all day, no matter what kind of skin you have.

5) Luscious Lips

Whether you’re going for bold and sexy, sweet and feminine or just natural and subtle, you can’t leave out the lips. Of course, exfoliating them beforehand is a must in order to get the perfect base for your lip makeup. Keep in mind, though, that while tints last practically forever, they’re known to dry out lips…so moisturize!

I recommend:

Lush Lip Scrub – Tastes great and gets the job done. If you want smooth lips, look no further. Your lips will be smooth in no time with this product.

ELF Studio Lip Exfoliator – Convenient, easy to use, cheap and gets the job done. What more could you ask for?

Liole L’Cret Miracle Magic Lipstick – A balm, lipstick and tint all in one, this is the perfect all in one product. The colours are beautiful and tints your lips, ensuring the colour lasts all day.

TonyMoly Catchu Wink Tony Tint – Pigmented and lasts all day. This is great on its own or underneath another product, ensuring your lips will be a nice red all day.

Baivphat Urban Dollkiss I Love Triple Lips – Super pigmented, this is a lipstick, balm, gloss and tint all in one cute little package. And this stuff lasts and lasts. Through eating, drinking…heck, even swimming, this stuff just doesn’t budge. The perfect long-lasting liquid lipstick. Bonus: It’s not as drying as other tints!

TonyMoly Berry Berry Magic Lip Tint – It’s a long-lasting tint and gloss that changes colour when you apply it…how cool is that? TonyMoly is famous for their tints, and this doesn’t disappoint. Looks great all day. Plus, it has a great colour payoff.

Wet ‘N’ Wild Megalast Lip Color – Super cheap but super pigmented and long lasting, too. Creamy and easy to apply, this lipstick is a great drugstore find.

Lancôme Baume In Love Sheer Tinted Balm – For those who want a more natural look, this product is perfect. Sheer yet pretty, with a shiny finish, these hydrate lips and keep them soft throughout the day. They’re comfortable to wear and virtually weightless, too.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm – Cheap, moisturizing and looks glossy. The colour is sheer, giving that perfect natural looking finish. Great especially if you’re going for dramatic eyes.

Bonne Bell Liquid Lip Smackers – This sure does bring back memories, doesn’t it? But this product is great, no matter how old you are. It’s clear, so it’s great over any lip colour, and makes your lips looks moist and shiny without being too sticky or glossy. Great product for a great price.

6) The Finishing Touches

Now…you have to make sure your makeup lasts, don’t you? Plus, if you have oily skin, then you probably want to reduce how shiny your face will get through the day.

Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder – This translucent powder keeps your skin shine-free pretty much all day. Or at least dramatically reduces the amount of shine. Either way, a total win.

Baby Powder – Strange, but I swear this isn’t a mistake. A little bit will help reduce oil (It’s cheaper and more accessible than the previous powder) and set your make-up. Beware of applying too much, though, or you’ll look like a ghost! This is also pretty diverse, as you can use it as a dry shampoo and under make-up, as well.

Palladio Rice Powder – Great for setting make-up as well as controlling oil. With such a great price and nice packaging, this is definitely worth a try.

Kat Von D Lock ‘N Load Makeup Setting Mist – This mist is lightweight as well as fast absorbing, and definitely helps makeup last all day. Great product if you’re willing to splurge for it.

ELF Studio High Definition Powder – Helps set and prolong the wear of makeup as well as control oil. For such an amazing price, why not give it a go?

Skinfood Red Orange Makeup Finish – There’re two types to choose from (One that gives a dewy look and one that gives a matte look), but they both work well. Sets your make-up without being too drying. Also helps it last throughout the day and can be used to freshen up makeup, too, which is nice.

7) Nailed It!

Whether you want natural, healthy looking nails or a dramatic, vibrant manicure, here’s a little something for everyone.

I’d recommend:

Holika Holika Magic Pop Nail Vivid – The name may be very amusing, but this polish performs pretty well for its price. The colour range is wonderful and they’re pretty pigmented. Perfect whether you want your nails a solid colour or sparkling in every colour of the rainbow.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Nail Colour – These apply like a dream and are perfect for anyone wanting either a simply look or a natural one.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure – Pigmented, smooth and shiny, these polishes are perfect for any look. As a bonus, this has already been formulated with base coat and top coat. It helps nails become stronger and grow longer, as well!

Essie Nail Polish – Great formula, as it’s chip resistant and super shiny, as well as pigmented and applies super evenly! A little more expensive, but definitely a great polish addition to any collection. With their extensive colour collection, there’s sure to be a colour for everyone!

INM Out The Door Top Coat – Dries quickly, gives a nice shine and helps prevent chipping for a pretty nice chunk of time.

Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Instant Nail Hardener – Works as both a base and top coat, this dries polish quickly and helps manicures last longer, all the while adding a ton of shine.

TheFaceShop Peel-Off Base Coat – Makes polish removal really easy. The main selling point of this, though, is that you can remove glitter effortlessly. This product is totally a saviour in that sense. Plus, this means you can break out the glitters and do intricate manicures for prom day and then remove them later with minimal effort!

8) On The Go

Now…there are a few things you can’t leave the house without. Besides a few makeup staples (Like powder and lipstick) to refresh your makeup throughout the day, here are a few other things you might want to keep in your purse or clutch.

I’d recommend:

Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets – These silky sheets absorb oil like crazy and leaves makeup intact. Definitely a perfect item to bring on the go.

Starbucks Napkins – Another strange item that looks like it shouldn’t be here. But, trust me, these work great in a pinch. They absorb oil well and, if you’re careful, they won’t mess up your makeup.

Makeup Refresher Spray – There are quite a few of these out there nowadays. Why would you want to keep one? Well, it can keep your makeup looking fresh and prevent it from becoming cakey, but it can also help your skin. Makeup generally dries out skin, so having one of these on hand will help keep your skin soft and moisturized.

And there you have it. One incredibly long post documenting pretty much everything you need to prepare for that special day. All that’s left now is to go and have fun!
